It's always a fun relaxed evening when the South Coast Sisters gather together during the annual Christmas Party. Delicious food, singing carols and a white elephant gift exchange fill the night with fun.

Free Retail Therapy
We had a fun evening of free retail therapy. Sisters brought gently used items for others to "shop" or swap treasures. There were quite a few happy "satisfied" customers leaving with bags full of "free" treasures. The items that were leftover at the end of the night were donated to a donation center.

Relief, Hope, Craft and Barbecue
We had some really talented sisters who taught the South Coast Ward Relief Society sisters some wonderful skills in mini classes. Arianne and Hinano provided a wealth of information regarding Emergency Preparedness. Shopping weekly and buying a little at a time is a great place to start. Water is extremely important to have for an emergency. They talked of what they put in their emergency bags and had handouts of lists and important emergency information.
Sister Cross gave a beautiful lesson on finding Hope through darkness. Jesus Christ is a big source of strength to find hope, but serving others is always a wonderful cure.
Jeannette is extremely talented at crocheting and had her own pattern to teach how to crochet wash cloths. There were a lot of beginners eager to learn.
The evening ended with Hazelle teaching the sisters how to barbecue kebabs using an inside grill (George Foreman), but can be done on an outside grill. She gave wonderful tips such as always SOAK the wooden skewers before placing on the barbecue otherwise they burn. She also gave a delicious recipe to marinate the beef or chicken which can be thickened into a sauce using cornstarch. And always whisk the cornstarch into COLD water never warm. She suggested using chicken thighs because they have more flavor than chicken breasts.
It was an enjoyable learning and eating and being with our friends.

Easter Baskets for Orange County Rescue Mission Children
This was our second year to purchase and donate Easter baskets for the children in the Orange County Rescue Mission. We all had a wonderful time stuffing the baskets to the brim with toys and candy and we certainly had a lot of donations and helpers. Once the baskets were filled we were able to enjoy each others company and taste some delicious Summer salads and beverages that the sisters brought. Recipes were readily available for those who wanted to add some new dishes to their Summer gatherings. It was a wonderful night in service.

Celebration & Service...
We had two wonderful reasons to CELEBRATE and SERVE last month!
On Wednesday, March 20th the South Coast Ward sisters came together to celebrate
the 171st birthday of the Relief Society.
It was on March 17, 1842,
that our Prophet Joseph Smith organized the Relief Society. He taught that the Relief Society was “not only to relieve the poor, but to save souls.”
Janet Finlay gave us a spiritual thought, reminding us that Relief Society is the oldest and largest women's organization in the world. She also shared a bit of history and emphasized our PURPOSE as sisters of the Relief Society:
1. to build faith and personal righteousness
2. strengthen families and homes
3. to help those in need
Thank you Janet, for your preparation and sweet spirit!
We played an interactive "Relief Society" game, where we came up with meaningful AND fun characteristics of this wonderful organization that we have the privilege to be a part of today...and then of course, we ate some cake! YUM!
In honor of our Relief Society's birthday, the Mesa View Ward & College Park Ward Relief Societies invited us to participate in a joint-service project. Each of our wards collected items for different age groups and put together Easter Baskets, which were donated to children at the Orange County Rescue Mission.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED US PUT THE EASTER BASKETS TOGETHER, AND FOR YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS!
SUCCESS!
Special thanks to Goldie, Janet, Irene & Beverly for planning this special night!
